Concordia Seminary serves church and world by providing theological education and leadership centered in the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ for the formation of pastors, missionaries, deaconesses, scholars, and leaders in the name of The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. Concordia Seminary is currently engaged in a search for a Full-Time Web Developer to work in their Communications/Creative Services Office.


Manage all facets of Concordia Seminary's website, from creation and design to management of all content and day-to-day operations of the site, and assist with maintaining the Seminary's other digital communications platforms in order to communicate the Seminary's mission to church and world.


  • Website Creation and Design
    • Create new websites as necessary, working with internal stakeholders.
    • Create site maps, wireframes and mockups.
    • Design visual elements of new websites, working with our editorial and design team.
    • Code, implement content, test and launch new sites.

  • Website Content Management
    • Implement and maintain a content lifecycle.
    • Ensure web content is fresh by gathering new information as necessary, including but not limited to writing, editing, photography and basic video production.
    • Assist with creating policies and procedures for working with web content.
    • Collaborate with editorial and design team members to ensure consistency with print and digital components of communications projects, including email marketing campaigns and social media communications.

  • Email Development
    • Code, develop and test HTML emails.
    • Build eye catching and creative HTML email templates.
    • Use templates to maintain consistency and maximize efficiency.
    • Test and troubleshoot email campaigns across multiple platforms, browsers and clients.
    • Analyze the effectiveness of campaigns in collaboration with other Seminary Advancement team members.

  • Website Maintenance
    • Create new pages and posts.
    • Manage CMS security.
    • Manage CMS performance.
    • Manage plugins, integrated systems and feeds.

  • Server, Network and Hosting
    • Interface with our hosting company for server configuration, capacity planning and support issues.
    • Resolve any issues related to site performance or downtime as expediently as possible.
    • Patch and configure server services as appropriate to maintain security standards.
    • Stay up to date with latest security disclosures including zero-day vulnerabilities.
    • Work with the Office of Technology Services to maintain external DNS records.

  • Analytics and Analysis
    • Distribute and interpret Google Analytics reports to internal stakeholders.
    • Develop custom reports as necessary and/or requested.


  • Adhere to Concordia Seminary's style guidelines and visual identity across all websites.
  • Participate in communications planning and marketing strategy sessions with internal clients when necessary.
  • Remain current on emerging technology and web development best practices.
  • Assist with coordinating and managing freelance and contract web developers.


Work Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of experience in a professional setting.
  • Demonstrated experience developing websites and HTML email is required.
  • Experience developing and maintaining digital archives.
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and good time management skills.
  • Ability to work quickly, troubleshoot and test work and independently.



  • Experience developing themes and plugins for WordPress.
  • Experience with usability, accessibility and SEO.
  • Deep understanding of analyzing and using website analytics to inform content strategy.
  • Experience with growing and engaging audiences via social media.
  • High writing and editing proficiency.

Education Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Web Development, Graphic Design, Computer Science or related field preferred. A combination of work experience, training and education commensurate with education may be substituted.

 Technical Skills

  • Expert level proficiency in WordPress (or similar CMS with demonstrable proficiency in PHP).
  • Expert level proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Ability to hand-code HTML and CSS.
  • Intermediate-to-expert PHP skills. The position is responsible for maintenance of existing custom development and further innovations TBD.
  • Convert design comps into fully responsive designs.
  • Experience with MailChimp or similar email marketing platform.

This position requires working on-site and on-call availability.
