Position Summary Information

Basic Function

Marketing and Creative Services objective is to assist in achieving NOVA’s goal to create an environment of world-class teaching and learning, building the college’s overall reputation for quality. To assist in meeting this goal, the office will improve and optimize NOVA’s Web presence through the official College website and social media sites and build external and internal communications networks by supporting college-wide initiatives. The office is to serve as a center of excellence and a general resource for the college.

Duties and Responsibilities

The dual purpose of this position is 1) Social media: develop and drive the day to day execution of NOVA’s social media strategy including: content curation, topic development, calendar planning and execution of social media programs. 2) Web: responsible for generating and guiding content development, homepage image selection, identifying data points for infographic development and overseeing college events calendar.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with studies in marketing, public relations, journalism, communications, English or a related field required or equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Demonstrated experience managing the design, editing and production of online publications. Experience developing and using blogs. Substantial experience in promoting programs, products and services, writing online informational/marketing materials and event planning. Experience in writing communication plans. Independent decision making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Advanced degree preferred in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations, English or related field. Experience in a similar type environment. Experience working in a Content Management System. Experience with developing marketing plans, informational/marketing materials and online publications.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong collaboration skills. Proven ability to manage a brand or organization’s social presence across platforms and successfully engage fans and followers. Knowledge of latest Internet trends, business models, social media policies and web/SEO technologies. A high degree of professionalism and the ability to work successfully within a cross functional team and members of NOVA’s wider community. Excellent written and oral English communication skills, editing, Web, social networking and marketing knowledge. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. A goal-oriented multi-tasker. Must be proficient at working in a team environment. Basic working knowledge of Microsoft (PC) office applications, HTML, CSS, Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Knowledge of content management systems (CMS). Knowledge of AP Stylebook guidelines and Web products, such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, along with how to best use them as marketing tools to promote the College.
