Summary

WTHR is looking for a highly motivated social media manager to create and manage the station's social media strategy. We are looking for a creative, experienced leader who will execute storytelling with social text, photos and video to drive engagement and content consumption. We need a leader and coach who can champion social media with the newsroom and work with our award-winning journalists to improve their social presence. The ideal candidate is aggressive, nimble and must possess excellent editing, writing and influencing skills. Experience working with video is preferred. The social media manager will advise station management with social metrics and data, maintain an editorial calendar and will be responsible for harvesting story content and ideas from WTHR's social platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Creating and managing the station's social media strategy in conjunction with the Digital Director;
  • Identifying and creating content for and posting to social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and other emerging platforms;
  • Supervises newsroom social engagement, evaluate and tracks social media analytics, and trains news team on social tools;
  • Develops social content selection method with digital management;
  • Optimizing content for distribution on specific social platforms;
  • Oversees creation of video specifically for Facebook and Instagram;
  • Create "meme" style images with Photoshop;
  • Schedule Facebook advertising including boosted posts;
  • Advises newsroom management with social metrics and data;
  • Creates and maintains a social media content calendar plan;
  • Coordinating with newsroom team to plan ahead for news, weather and sport events;
  • Identify and pitch story ideas from social platform tips;
  • Maximize engagement on all social platforms and grow the WTHR.com audience;
  • Manages station voice in social posts;
  • Performs other duties as directed; and
  • Reports to Digital Director.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an editor, writer or producer at a major news organization or blog that creates content under tight deadlines;
  • Expert social media user on social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and other emerging platforms; and
  • Experience with HTML, CSS, Google Analytics and Chartbeat is preferred.
