Description

CSS is now hiring a Safety Specialist in Bethesda, MD to join our Team. The Safety Specialist will support the biosafety laboratories and processes conducted by Institutes and Centers (ICs) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This is a one-year term position and will start as soon as possible.

CSS is a professional and technical services provider to government and commercial clients. Our services are organized into four business lines and several cross-cutting services that we have cultivated through our 32 years of corporate experience. The four business lines are Earth, Space & Life Sciences, Emergency Response & Disaster Recovery, Environmental, Safety & Health, and Natural Resources Management. Job Duties:

The position duties are as follows:

• Conducts surveys of assigned BSL 1, 2, and 2 with 3 practices laboratories and assists laboratories in resolving identified deficiencies.
• Performs laboratory clearances
• Reviews assigned Animal Study Proposals and provides feedback to Animal Care and Use Committees
• Provides technical guidance on requests for NIH Institutes, including, but not limited to construction/renovation planning, preoccupancy inspections, safety walk-throughs, odor calls, OSHA inquiries, and collaborative efforts with other offices.
• Performs injury and illness investigations
• Other safety duties as assigned including attendance at meetings

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety & Health, Biology, or related field.
• At least 2-3 years of related experience
• Must be able to work independently with minimal guidance
• Must be able to pass an NIH National Agency Check
• Experience working in a research or lab setting and a strong biology/lab background

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Safety& Health, Biology, or related field.
