Overview:

Macy’s is looking for an expert in SEO to lead and manage our organic search optimization efforts. This person will be responsible for increasing natural visibility and traffic across the major search services. This position will report to the VP of Communications and Media. This role requires strong analytical, technical, communication and leadership skills.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and evangelize our strategy for driving macys.com’s organic search optimization efforts.
  • Collaborate and build strong working relationships individually and with the SEO team among Engineering, Marketing, PR, UI Design, Customer Service and other constituents to ensure efforts are aligned.
  • Audit site architecture, navigation, creative for search engine accessibility and drive implementation of improvements.
  • Develop and execute SEO strategies and best practices across macys.com to drive key metrics.
  • Establish SEO service-wide guidelines and help integrate into plans and roadmaps.
  • Partner with Marketing to complement SEM, keyword, link building efforts.
  • Leverage social networking platforms/services for link building.
  • Define metrics and establish reports to measure successes and opportunities.
  • Keep up to date on new SEO trends/practices and continually analyze and leverage the opportunities for growing organic traffic.

Skills Summary:

  • BA/BS in Marketing with a strong understanding of technical SEO or BA/BS in Engineering or similar technical discipline or relevant work experience.
  • 5+ yrs SEO experience, SEM experience a plus.
  • 5+ yrs of management experience, leading multi-person, dynamic teams.
  • A track record for continually improving and optimizing a major online service.
  • Experience working on an online retail site.
  • Solid understanding of search engine ranking factors, algorithms and principals.
  • Good connections with the SEO community.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and interactions with technical and business constituents.
  • Strong web analytics skills including experience with Coremetrics, Webmaster Tools, BrightEdge and strong Excel skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong knowledge of social networking and media services and how to leverage for SEO.
  • Basic web design and development knowledge or comprehension (HTML, CSS, XHTML, JavaScript, .NET, Flash & Silverlight, DNS, robots, etc.).
  • Understanding of the CPC and CPA models.
