Government Affairs Coordinator

Job Description:

Our client, The Raleigh Chamber, is looking for a Government Affairs Coordinator to serve as a voice of the business community for local and state levels of government in consultation with the Vice President of Government Affairs. Assists in the coordination of daily departmental activity to include but not limited to meeting preparation, scheduling and communications; event planning and execution; administrative support; and other daily tasks to ensure the success of the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops content for Government Affairs Department events to be responsive to the needs of the business community and inform Chamber members on public policy topics

  • Coordinates communication efforts between department and event attendees, sponsors and speakers

  • Assists in the execution of all event activities from planning through execution

  • Serves as the point person for all event processes and procedures to ensure success of department events

  • Provides administrative support for the Government Affairs Board including, but not limited to: Meeting preparation, communication to members, minutes and documentation, and scheduling, set-up and break down of meetings

  • Performs necessary research related to specific issues or policy

  • Assists in the preparation of the local and state policy agenda and provides consult on federal agendas, when applicable

  • Monitors city and county ordinances, policy, and proposals affecting businesses and suggests appropriate action

  • In consultation with the VP of Government Affairs, represents the department with local elected and appointed officials in stakeholder/policy discussion meetings when applicable

  • Provide administrative support of all assigned Committees, Subcommittees and task forces, including guest speakers, correspondence, record keeping, minutes, research and physical arrangements for meetings.

  • Maintains compliance with Board of Elections, Secretary of State

  • Prepares and distributes annual Voters? Guide to inform Chamber membership of election candidates

  • Set objectives in collaboration with Task Force and direct content for Inter-City visit Program (annually), including serving as lead point of contact for the volunteer committee. Work in collaboration with the events team on logistics.

  • Represents the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce at community events where the Chamber is a stakeholder

  • Serves as liaison to local businesses, non-profits, and public entities on behalf of the Chamber.

  • Creates Government Affairs content for the Chamber website and submits content for Chamber blog

  • Maintains multiple databases and ensures administrative tasks are completed

  • Provides support for bond referendums, including social media campaigns

Education Requirements:

  • Must possess a Bachelor's degree from a recognized four-year institution of higher learning in political science, public policy, communications, public relations, or related field.

Desired Background/Skills:

  • Strong communication, negotiation, strategic planning, event management, and team leadership skills required

  • Ability to work in a flexible environment, including occasional nights and weekends, and attend occasional overnight conferences

  • Attention to detail and strong work ethic required

Qualifications:

  • Two to four years of relevant work experience preferred, one to two years of relevant work experience required.
