Job Summary

This internship in the UITS Center for Innovative Teaching and Learning (CITL) will assist with CITL's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) efforts. CITL provides comprehensive services supporting excellent teaching and learning at Indiana University Bloomington. Specifically, this position will focus on DEIJ and teaching and learning technologies.

The selected intern will assist with research and outreach activities aimed at helping IUB instructors provide equitable learning experiences to remote learners. Research areas/topics include identifying and eliminating barriers to student success, how to implement inclusive teaching practices in online courses, and technology tools that foster community in virtual learning environments. Outreach includes blog posts, workshops, webinars, reading groups, and informal events such as coffee hours.

The intern will assist in designing materials for training of undergraduates who want to be teaching assistants. The intern will have the opportunity to generate their own project ideas to support CITL's DEIJ programming efforts.

This internship will expose the student to existing and emerging teaching and learning technologies, research skills, workshop development, DEIJ research, and pedagogy in a collaborative work environment. In addition, the student would be afforded the opportunity to discuss and analyze emerging technologies in a professional environment outside the classroom with CITL staff, UITS staff, faculty, and students. This internship is ideal for a student interested in teaching, technology, and promoting DEIJ.

Description of duties:

  • Work collaboratively with CITL staff to explore topics related to DEIJ and learning technologies.
  • Generate blog posts to educate and support IU instructors as they create equitable and inclusive online learning environments.
  • Interview faculty and students about online teaching and education.
  • Support organization of outreach events from start through implementation (organization) and completion (surveys).
  • Assist with the communication strategy for reaching instructors.

Required Qualifications

Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University.

Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Self-motivated, with ability to work independently, as well as part of a team. General interest in teaching, DEIJ issues, and/or learning technologies. Ability to analyze information and exercise informed independent judgement. Strong time management and organizational skills.
